What Does a Normal Cervical Spine Look Like?Īn ideal cervical spine should have a curve in it because it is its strongest in this position. ![]() When you have a loss of curve of your spine in this plane, it takes the pressure off the back part (facets) of your spine and puts more pressure on your discs, causing them to wear out faster and making them more prone to injury in the future. The most important curve out of the 3 curves is the curvature in your neck because the nerves that continue out of your brainstem have to travel through your spinal canal in your neck before the nerve signals can reach other parts of your body. 2,3 The importance of the curves is to increase shock absorbing capacity, increase flexibility, maintaining stability in your spine, 3 and to help resist gravitational forces that constantly pull down on us throughout the day. Looking at your spine from the side, it should have 3 curves in it. Since our spine houses the extension of our brain, it must be important right? Most people brush their teeth every day, but not everyone thinks about spinal hygiene every day. There is a saying that goes “if our spine was visible, we would take better care of it,” just like we do with our teeth. I just want to feel normal again. What is a normal spine? Do you have an ideal spine? A “normal” spine is relative to each person’s situation (depending on the damage that has already been done, anatomical variations, and so forth), but for the purpose of this, we will consider what an ideal or optimum spine should be. I personally think maybe my cervical spine has pinched nerves and it's causing my issues, either way I feel scared, and desperate for answers. I really want to feel normal and know that this isn't something terribly serious. Neurologist didn't do much but offer me narcotics and dismiss my desire to have an mri of my cervical spine.Īs a side note I have had head tremors since I was 18 and no one knew why, they just diagnosed me with essential tremor but it has gotten significantly worse this past year. My CBC is mostly normal other than my MCH is always slightly low, prolactin is normal, ER did an EKG, and cardio bloodwork that they said was all normal. I had a thyroid ultrasound that showed two small nodules T-3 that are mildly suspicious with a recommendation to check them again in a year. (still not sure that it could have anything to do with my current symptoms) I seen the gynecologist for unrelated issues to my problems but he called today and said that I have group b strep in my urine and fibroids in my endometrial lining and a thick uterine wall so I have to go tomorrow to see about a biopsy. My magnesium was extremely low and they gave me a shot of it at the ER. I also have bad arthritis in my knees and spurs in my left ankle but I think that is unrelated. ER doctor and rheumatologist didn't seem concerned about it. I have had a ct and xray of my cervical spine that shows loss of cervical lordosis and degenerative discs. My C-reactive protein is 35 out of a 0-5 scale (rheumatologist says it's cause I'm fat.) I have seen a rheumatologist, neurologist, ER doctor, gyno and primary care doctor. I do hear my neck grind when moving it left to right. I have heaviness in my ears, it feels like there is a tight band around my neck, weird headaches if I hold a position too long, my diaphragm feels very heavy and despite my oxygen being normal I feel out of breath but I'm usually calm and my face is numb all the time, not just with the breathing episodes (both sides of my face, forehead to the neck) it is worse when standing or sitting and my face becomes very red. ![]() Since about early January, I started having what I thought was sudden debilitating anxiety attacks due to Ozempic, no adult history of anxiety attacks, however, I stopped Ozempic January 26th and the symptoms continued. 36f 5ft2 250lbs white metformin hcl 500mg, spironolactone 200mg no drinking, no smoking, no drugs, pcos, diabetes ![]()
